The tiles were originally designed for Hotel Parco dei Principi located by the deep-blue sea in Sorrento, Southern Italy. The hotel’s guest rooms are decorated with strikingly blue tiles that seem to blend into the sea. The tiles were designed by Gio Ponti, an architect who was a leading figure of Italian modernism. Ponti’s hand from the early 1960s is seen in everything from the building design down to its interiors and furniture. One of the most enchanting aspects of the hotel is its tiles, arranged in thirty geometric patterns. While the individual patterns are in themselves quite simple, the various ways they are assembled create an astonishing kaleidoscope of expression and simultaneously reflect Ponti’s talent and mischievousness.

Each of the products presented in this collection is an exquisitely reproduced by LIXIL in 2011, and now they reborn as tiles in 1/16 scale of the originals. This is the 9 pc-set which includes 8 different patterns and Ponti’s signature on the tiles.

The various ways of geometric patterns can be seen on special movie. Please click here (You Tube)
